This service includes:

  • Advice on appropriate diagnostic tests
  • Interpretation of microbiology results
  • Investigation and treatment of patients with suspected infection or infectious diseases
  • Antibiotic advice and management
  • Travel medicine.

Members of the department have extensive experience in all facets of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases including HIV medicine and infections in immunocompromised patients. Royal colleges and special societies to which members of the department belong include Royal Australian College of Physicians, the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases, the Australian Society for Microbiology, the Australasian Society for HIV Medicine, the American Society of Microbiology, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, Transplant Infectious Diseases and the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology.
