There is close liaison with the Neurosurgery Department and conjoint weekly meetings are held to discuss the management and investigation of complex cases. All members of the Department are members of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists, Fellows of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and belong to subspecialist societies according to their interests. Services include: Clinical Neurophysiology, comprising: EEG Nerve conduction studies and electromyography, including single fibre studies Somatosensory evoked potentials and motor evoked potentials Nerve and muscle ultrasound and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks CT scanning / CT spinal angiography MRI CSF analysis Botulinum toxin for neurological conditions including dystonia and migraine Deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonia and Tremor Muscle histopathology Subspecialty expertise includes: (but is not limited to) Cerebrovascular disease (stroke) Dementia and cognitive disorders Epilepsy Headache (including migraine) Motor Neurone Disease Movement disorders including Parkinson’s Disease, dystonia and tremor Multiple Sclerosis Neuroimmunology Neuromuscular (peripheral nerve and muscle) disorders Neuro-oncology Pain diagnosis and management Spinal cord and nerve root disorders (compressive, inflammatory etc) A same day service is available for direct urgent GP referrals. Department members are involved in registrar training and basic neuroscience and clinical trials.
