Let’s talk about obesity

While obesity has nearly tripled in four decades worldwide, the disease is still burdened by heavy stigma and misconceptions across society. Yet obesity is far from a simple cosmetic issue: it increases risks of health complications such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and certain types of cancer.

Every year, World Obesity Day takes place on the 4th March to help educate the community around obesity, change the way it is perceived in our society, and better understand the roots that contribute to the disease.

For the occasion, our specialist in Upper GI and Bariatric Surgery A/Prof Michael Talbot gives us some insights about the disease.
