Making leaps in methods of treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Dealing with a chronic and unpredictable condition is a reality for over 85,000 Australians living with inflammatory bowel disease; in fact, Australia has one of the highest rates of IBD prevalence and incidence in the world.

Ulcerative Colitis is one of the most common forms of inflammatory bowel disease, causing inflammation of the large intestine. This life-long disease involves symptoms that often come and go, having a significant impact on patient’s emotional, physical and social wellbeing. Thanks to the support of the St Vincent's Clinic Foundation, Dr Simon Ghaly is investigating the efficacy of a new method of treatment that would transform these patients’ quality of life.
