A/Prof Nick Vertzyas


Associate Professor Nick Vertzyas has been associated with the St Vincent’s  campus for well over 30 years. He did his undergraduate training at the St Vincent’s clinical school. He was a senior registrar and a fellow with A/Prof. Michael Neil before becoming the Chairman of Orthopaedics. He was granted the position of research fellow at the Bringham Hospital in Boston associated with the Harvard University. During this time he was trained in minimally invasive surgery and computer-assisted surgery. Since his return from the United States he has held clinical and research positions and help set up the Cunningham research Institute at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. He also set up a hip and knee arthroplasty fellowship through the Australian Orthopaedic Association.  He introduced robotic arthroplasty surgery to the St Vincent’s  Private Hospital and performed the first Robotic Persona PS knee replacement in the world at St Vincent’s. He is Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at the St Vincent’s  Private Hospital and an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame. He continues to undertake clinical research in arthroplasty.
